In news:615210F8-30A2-476A-BDC1-2B074409D623@xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Gert Lacko <GertLacko@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented
on below:
My DNS is running on Windows 2003 SP1 on a DC. This DNS server
experiences problems with name resolution and I've discovered, that
this particular machine has a caching zones entry and a . (root) zone.
I want to remove the root zone even the whole caching mechanism if
possible.
Several articles tell me to klick on the root zone entry and delete
it. However the Delete option is not available for this zone.
Issuing a dnscmd . /ZoneDelete . /DsDel /f simply comes back telling
me "wrong arguments".
Is There any other way to get rid of it?
Make sure you are logged on as Domain Admin or Ent Admin, highlight the Root
(the dot) zone, hit the delete button. Then close the console, and re-open
it, and you should be able to get into the Forwarders and see Root Hints tab
in it's properties,
This article below explains the same thing.

If you can't delete it, something else is going on. We'll need more
elaborate detail of your machine's config, ipconfig /all, what exact type of
resolution problems, whether AD domain based or external resolution, and
registration problems, Event ID#s, etc. Don't hold back...

Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express
or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to
news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public
Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you
to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name,
watched threads or subject.
Not sure how? It's easy:
