Assuming all your machines only use the internal DNS, AND you are using
Forwarding, try removing the forwarders and let it just use Root Hints. I
remember an issue with this (correct me if I'm wrong please) and the type of
DNS servers being forwarded to (BIND) if they have a certain vulnerability
and may have been compromised. Just a WAG. See if that helps if it applies.

What else is installed on this DNS server (list everything please), any
Event log errors, and any other related data will help.
