Re: External DNS won't resolve host

Your post is confusing. What do you mean by "I have the same host file in
my local(internal) DNS"? Are you saying you're putting entries into a hosts
file which is located on your DNS server and expecting other clients to be
able to resolve that name? That won't work. The host file has to be on the
client itself.

Hi,

I am having trouble resolving to a particular host in my external DNS.
I have the same host file in my local(internal) DNS and it resolves as
expected when I use our LAN. (eg host.domain.local)

However, when I switch to an outside internet connection I can't get
our external DNS to resolve the host file. Typing the IP DOES work from
the outside but not the Host name. (eg host.domain.com)

Also other host names in the external DNS resolve as expected.

I have tested the host file in the external DNS by changing the IP in
the file to a different host. When I do, it does resolve to the
different host. When I switch it back, it bombs again (it times out).

By testing in in our local LAN where it does work I know the web server
is working.

Any ideas on why it won't resolve from the outside?

.
