Have you tried to turn on advanced logging?
Use nslookup against this server with the -d2 switch e.g. nslookup -d2
www.yahoo.com serverip
Post the results so I can see where it breaks.
Just to rule out the firewall run this command on the server
dnscmd /config /enableednsprobes 0
