creating subzones with dnscmd

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi,

I am trying to create a script to populate our new MS DNS servers,
however I have come acrossa slight problem. We have a private class A
network 10.0.0.0, and i need to create the zones for this before I add
some records using dnscmd. In the literature I have read it says that
when you create a reverse zone, you only need to state the network part
of the address, ie 10.in-addr.arpa, and that the windows dns server
service will create the relevent subzones as needed.

However if I do say:

dnscmd /recordadd 10.in-addr.arpa 10 PTR host1

it obviously creates a zone called 10.in-addr.arpa with a host in it
with an IP of 10. Not exactly what I want. If I specify the full IP
address, as in:

dnscmd /recordadd 10.in-addr.arpa 10.19.1.10 PTR host1

it makes no attempt to create a 1.19.10.in-addr.arpa subzone.

Please tell me there is a way to do this, as I don't fancy having to
create a zone for every possible class C in a class A network.

thanks

gareth
