I'm going to disagree with you that it is stupid, it does increase the amout
of DNS administration slightly. but it is not difficult to overcome. That is
so long as you do not have to access the web site by using only the domain
name. The Domain name MUST resolve to IP addresses on all DCs that have
file sharing enabled.
Adding the record(s) named www with this IP of the web server will work, you
may have to run ipconfig /flushdns first.
