The main problem here is the single-label DNS name, you will have to modify
the registry on ALL client machines and DCs.
300684 - Information About Configuring Windows 2000 for Domains with
Single-Label DNS Names
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300684&sd=RMVP

Now, you can actully do one of these (UpdateTopLevelDomain) entries in a
Group Policy only to the XP or Win2k3 clients. But I'm pretty sure the
AllowSingleLabelDnsDomain is not in a GPO and you wil have to manually add
it.
