In news:n6rn0k3elyq2.1ob4gzclj8436$.dlg@xxxxxxxxxx, Andrea Moro <moroandrea@xxxxxxxxxx> stated, and I replied below:
I'm not sure I would check this box, it will disable its ability for using root hints to resolve external names should the forwarders fail.
Well forwarders are still working, I resolve all address from the server and also from the client.
Can you post the
What is the Active Directory domain name in Active Directory Users & Computers? (It should be webma.local)Yes it is
What are the forward lookup zone names in DNS? (you should have webma.local and possibly _msdcs.webma.local) Both the zones should allow dynamic updates.
Yes, and dynamic updated are turned on.
So what could be the cause?
Sincerely Andrea
Hi Andrea,
Kevin took a couple of days off to spend some time with his family. I hope I can help along with Kevin's previous helpful suggestions and comments.
I have some questioins below if you can do me a favor and try and answer them. It may be helpful to iron out this problem you are having.
Did you check all that Kevin suggested in the prvious threads, such as and some additions:
1. Binding order: Did you make sure the internal NIC on the server is at the top of the binding list?
2. On the external NIC, did you disable NetBIOS, uncheck Microsoft File and Print services and unchecked Microsoft Client service?
3. In DNS properties, under the interfaces tab, is it only set to listen to the internal IP address?
4. What kind of clients do you have that you are having the slow connectivity to the server shares?
5. Are all of your client machines only using 192.168.0.1 for DNS?
6. In DNS, under the _msdcs.webma.local zone, do ytou see a "gc" record? If so, can you post what IP addresses show up under that please? If seen issues when the incorrect GC address shows up.
7. Any new Event log errors show up when the connection problem occurs?
As for the 40961 errors, that is usually indicative if you do not have a reverse zone for your subnet. In your case, the subnet would be 192.168.0.0. The outside NIC, as long as the above #1, 2 and 3 are followed, you won';t have to worry about the outside NIC.
If I can make a small suggestion that may help you take care of all of these issues: I would recommend for you to purchase a NetGear or Linksys Cable/DSL Router/Firewall to handle the incoming ISP connection. The reason why? Honestly, mutlihomed domain controllers are very problematic and can cause numerous issues, as you've already experienced, and also numerous headeaches, which I believe you may be going thru. A good Netgear unit that can handle this can be purchased for less than USD $75.00, or even lower if you look for some sales or specials.
Multihomed DCs issues have been posted numerous times in these threads in the past, (you can search for some of these threads), and there are multiple ways to fix or patch it to force it to work, but it would save you a bunch of headaches and problems to let another device offer Internet connectivity for your office network.
I am looking forward to your responses.
