I'm running it fine with me now. It took me some time to figure out to get
it to work, as you have to set up the Default Gateways and DNS and DHCP (if
you use that) properly. I even set up a second server to act as spare if the
first one is off line. I just need to change the cabling from the "internet
link NIC" of server1 to the "internet link NIC of server2.
My setup is:
NIC1: static IP address. DNS server points to itself as I set it up as a DNS
server. This DNS server forwards requests to my ISP DNS-servers.
NIC2: automatic configuration.
Workstations point to my DNS-server, they don't know anything about the
internet connection. Default gateway is set to the adress of NIC1.
Remark: if you do this kind of thing, make sure you don't route your local
addresses to the Internet. That's nice for your ISP and the other users. Add
a filter for your local adresses (DO THIS AFTER EVERYTING WORKS, as you
might configure this wrong).
