DNS Caching

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

We've recently upgraded our Win2k A/D domain to Win2k3. I've just noticed though that all our Win2k3 DNS servers no longer cache external DNS records. This all worked fine under Win2k. If you look at the DNS resolver cache (ipconfig /displaydns) only local records are cached, and nothing for external (internet) hosts.

The full path for DNS resolution here is;

Child Domain > Forest Root > Unix DNS > Internet

All clients in the child domain can resolve all DNS fine, but nothing caches on the Win2k3 servers, so DNS lookups are slower. The dnscache service (DNS Client) is running ok. There are no obvious DNS event log errors.

Is this another security change with Win2k3, maybe not trusting non Win2k3 DNS servers (I've had the same problem with Windows time!)

Thanks
.
