I have a class C address block assigned to me from my ISP.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Can you please explain?

I like the flexibility of having my DNS server under my control. And up
until I realized reverse DNS wasn't working correctly, I've had great
success running my own.

143.247.20.0/24 (same address block I'm posting from)

AOL blocked email from my SMTP server and refuse to re-enable it until I
have reverse DNS for my SMTP server's IP address.

Thank you again for your help,
