We recently did an in place upgrade to Active directory. We upgraded our
current DNS and placed several DNS server at specific sites. Our DNS is
Active directory integrated and it’s working well. The question that I have
pertains to configuring DNS on a server (windows 2003) that will reside in a
different forest. Here is some of the background information that I find is
important.
The forest in question is still Windows NT the plan is to also does an in
place upgrade. What I’m attempting to do is to configure DNS, DHCP and Wins
(on a window before the upgrade. This is what I did for my first in place
upgrade and it worked very well. The NT domain has a one way trust. The NT
domain trusts the Windows 2003 domain. I want to be able for the NT domain
(that will be upgraded to Active directory) lookup information from my DNS
entries in the windows 2003 domain. I’m not sure what is the best way, Should
the Windows 2003 domain transfer its zone? Or should the Windows NT domain
DNS server that I’m setting up on a windows 2003 server just have an entry to
forward? I do know that The NT domain needs to resolve names in the Windows
2003 active directory domain.
