If they can communicate to port 53, mostly only UDP, then
they can query (IOW unless you have restricted with such
as firewall, IPsec, etc. they can query)
It is generally considered dangerous (or rather deadly) to
use dynamic updates if the updates are not secured, and at
the moment that means the senders of updates need be members
of a domain in the forest.
