Re: partial resources showing up under incorrect virtual server

Hey Chuck - thanks for responding--
So, I understand that all the shares would show up under one of the virtual
servers when one of them fails, but when both servers are up and running and
the Cluster Administrator shows that all the services have failed back to the
correct servers (file shares on node1, printers on node2), why would there be
some leftover printer shares showing on node1?
Heck, it would even make sense or be understandable if all the folder shares
and all the printer shares showed up, but only a small handful of printers
are 'ghosting' on the file server share. That's the really weird thing. I'm
wondering what's so special about those few...
I'm going to re-start node1 (file shares) tonight after 5 and see if those
few printer shares go away. I'll post my findings in the morning.
Thanks!

This is expected behavior that will change in W2K8. Files do not show up.
with printers because we 'scope' the printers in the context of the spooler
service. We do not do this for file shares until W2K8. File shares use SMB
and NetBIOS, so what you see is expected when connecting to the virtual
server supporting the file shares.

Hi all--
So I've got an active/active cluster setup for file and print sharing.
Node1 is acting as the file server, Node2 is the print server, the virtual
share names being \\files & \\print. I re-booted Node1, Node2 took over
both
the file and print sharing just fine, when Node1 came back up, it failed
back
just fine. When I re-booted Node2, Node 1 took over both file and print
sharing just fine, when Node2 came up completely, everything failed back
correctly.
Now the weird part - If I go to virtual server \\print, all the printers
show up fine, but if I go to virtual server \\files, all the folder shares
are there, and about 15 out of 50 of the printers are still there.
Now, on \\print, all the printers show up and everything works fine. When
going to \\files, and you see one of the handful of printers, if you try
to
connect to one it'll say that you can't connect to the printer, the name
was
typed incorrectly, etc...
Is there some sort of caching it's doing and it needs to be cleared? I've
been poking through the forums and don't see anything like this. I'm
hoping
that if I re-start Node1, the problem will go away. There are no errors
in
event logs either.
Any ideas?
