Re: When do client connections disconnect

Hi Rodney: Just because a ping test fails does mean existing socket
connections are cleaned up by the cluster.

It does terminate, a ping test will fail. If your application is cluster
aware the application will handle this delay/error and it will reconnect.

Thanks for your response: But let me ask the question again.

I would like my client applications to start reconnecting as soon as the
IP
has failed over. The server processes on the failed machine may take a
while
to completly shutdown and clean up socket connections.

So, does the failover of an IP and network name terminate socket
connections. Or, do I have to wait for the old server processes to
complete
their shutdown.

Are there any kind of configuration options to tear down socket
connections
as a result of the IP and netwrok name failover?

It depends. If your application is cluster aware, nothing bad will
happen.
If the application is not cluster aware, you will disconnect.

I have set up an application to run in a virtual server.

Can anyone tell me if clients connected to the application will see a
connection loss as a result of the IP resource going offline OR do the
server
applications have to terminate the connections/die before the clients
will
see the lost connection.
