Heh, how email fails to describe emotions.
And here I was dumbing down my responses so that the arrogance on this list would understand basic networking, clearly I was wrong.
I am sorry you feel people here are arrogant. I may be one of those that you feel this way about.
However, text messages like this do not properly convey emotions and you may be reading more into it than is ever intended. Let's leave that subject alone for now, though.
The issue is that you are recommending use of host files for private network resolution. First, host names are not used for private networks in clusters, second, setting up such host files can do far more damage than good.
When discussing HA, the goal of HA is to provide services and applications to clients. To use host files instead of DNS makes absolutely no sense since you would also have to touch all client machines. Host files are intended for use in extremely small environments where there is no need for external connectivity and the cost of a DNS implementation is more than manual hosts maintenance. An HA environment is not such a situation.
So, to summarize, your statements about using hosts files for private/heartbeat network name resolution are way off base. We have tried, and will gladly continue to try, to help you understand this issue.
