Have a good weekend.

If this is a cluster, you will not be able to access the settings in the.

Chuck, the registry show Enable DCOM "Y" so it appears to be enabled in
the
registry but not in DCOM mmc.

Jeff,
Customer is not going to allow me to build this resource on the
production
machine not knowing if this is the issue.
I guess I am back to my basic questions.
Is MSDTC needed to enable DCOM?
Could a GPO be preventing me from enabling DCOM?
Thanks,

Thank you for the quick response. I will give it a try and post my
results.

It's true that in a clustered environment, the local DTC service is
prevented from running and therefore, prevents the DCOM snapin from
fully
expanding the computers branch. All you need to do to prove/disprove
whether
or not the lack of the DTC service running is add a new 'Distributed
Transaction Coordinator' resource to one of the cluster groups,
bring
it
online. If you still see the issue, just delete that resource and
continue
troubleshooting.

I am at a customer site troubleshooting an error with a client
server
application with indications pointing towards DCOM. I have a
Win2003
two
node
Active Passive cluster. I have located some articles related to
the
resource
that has to be built for Distributed Transaction Coordinator but I
am
not
sure this is my issue. Ther resource is not built and I have the
(red
down
arrow) when I expand the DCOM window to my computer.
The real problem I am seeing is the Default properties tab at my
computer
for DCOM. The check box for Enable Distributed COM is not enabled.
When I
enable this checkbox, I show no accounts in the Default
Authentication
drop
down. Even more strange, when I ok the changes. The MMC closes on
me.
When
I
re-open MMC for DCOM the checkbox is unchecked.
Is MSDTC needed to enable DCOM?
Could a GPO be preventing me from enabling DCOM?
I do not see the same issue on non-clustered machines at this
site!
Your help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
