Yes to what you guessed and I have seen dozen of packages that won't install
unless you use the /console. Windows Update for example can get down right
ugly and require a second reboot for RDPs to work after patching.
Strangeness indeed, always use the /console switch :)

Is this because you will see every errormsg, warnings, popups etc.. which
under some conditions don't show in regulard TS session? Or is there also
some other specific reason? Thank you
Martin

And if you install via RDP (Terminal Services) use the /console switch
for all installs and patches.

The current mismatch itself shouldn't be a problem as long as by the
time you are done, both nodes are as identically configured as possible.
One comment I'd add to Q174799 is to reboot both nodes BEFORE you apply
the patches. I can't tell you the amount of issues I've seen where
there's some pre-existing condition on the server, a patch is applied,
then the server fails to boot, blue screens, etc. and the blame gets put
on the patch. It's a good idea to reboot servers (if you can) beforehand
so you can verify they come up clean.

I have an Active /Passive cluster that I need to install security
updates to.
For the most part the updates on both nodes are the same except for a
few on
Node2 that I do not see on Node 1. Will this be an issue after
rebooting the
nodes? Also, does anyone have a better white paper on installing
updates in a
cluster? The only article I have is KB 174799. Thanks.
