Re: Does anyone know if MNS cluster support a Virtual Server created in ESX VMware as a node of existing MNS cluster?

I have seen presentations from Microsoft that describe using a "Witness
Node" in a cluster and the comments were that this witness node could be "of
lesser caliber" than the standard cluster nodes. This assumes that the
Witness Node would only have the Cluster Group listed as a possible owner
and would never host the cluster applications. This type of configuration
should work in this environment.

Of course, this was a slide deck and not an official support statement. I
believe you would need to run this type of config through HCT tests for full
support.

John

From a support perspective, mixing and matching nodes where your fifth
node
is a VMWare server will put your cluster outside our support boundaries.

Hello to all,

I have a MNS cluster composed with four nodes (working as a File
server). The servers are running in Windows server 2003 Enterprise
edition with SP1. I know how works MNS cluster and I know that in a
MNS cluster composed by four nodes, only one node can fail. I am
thinking the possibility to add a virtual machine installed with same
operating system created in ESX VMware to save me the cost of the
hardware that a new server. Obiusly this node won´t see any virtual
disk but will be add in the existing MNS cluster such as 5 node and at
this form, can fail two nodes in the cluster at the same time.

Could you please let me know If I can add a Virtual Server created in
ESX VMware as a existing MNS cluster? Deas snyone know if MNS cluster
support Virtual Servers such as cluster node?

Thanks in advanced

Kind Regards
Juan
