Re: IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 Cluster

Worthless is not the wording I would use, it is not optimal. IIS clustering
is gone in Longhorn. IIS is made for NLB, but neither will it help you sync
the data. Have your thought about having the data on DFS? shared between the
NLBed nodes?

I came into a job where there were two clusters, one for sql and one
for IIS... are you telling me that IIS clustering is worthless? we
dont have NLB turned on. Also I am having a difficult time getting the
IIS's to synch, would NLB take care of that too?

Thanks,

If you are planning on doing server clustering, don't. NLB is made for
IIS
6.0. Server clustering won't monitor or do anything your IIS. NLB at
least
can handle session state.

I am planning on implementing a Windows 2003 Cluster with 4
webservers(IIS 6.0). My question is, will the Windows cluster manage
the IIS user sessions created via our ASP.NET app? If one of the
webservers in the cluster goes down, will the session remain active and
will it be transparent to the user. Also, I assume DFS will manage the
files to be shared amongst the Webservers in the cluster. Has there
been any issues with IIS pointing to EFS dirs?
