Re: file share

Thanks, but it is not in the cluster group.

I just have two groups:

- Cluster group (with the quorum disk)
- Group0: Here I have Exchange, another application and the File share
resource.

I would like to have a separate group for Exchange, another for the file
share, and so on, but I can't do it because of the hardware doesn't allow to
me to create LUNs.

I am going to create a new network name resource like "FileServer" so that
it seems like a new server in the lan, and so, people will have to go to
\\fileserver\users instead of going to \\mycluster\users, because mycluster
is the network name of the cluster, and I don't know if I have understood
well, but in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224967/en-us I think it
suggests not to use the name of the cluster for file share resources.

Thanks, I wish you a good weekend,

M.G.

MG,

I agree with Russ here

Create a seperate Cluster group with minimum resources:
- 1 or more physical disks
- 1 IP address
- 1 Network Name
- 1 file share
(make the fileshare dependant on the other 3 resources)

Never put any "additional" resouces in the Cluster Group, or any other
files/shares on a Quorum disk

Edwin.

Hi Edwin.

I have tried to send the cluster.log but is too large to send it to the
news
server.

I have seen that the file share resource is \\mycluster\users, and
mycluster
is the name of the cluster.

In http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224967/en-us you can read this in a
paragraph:

"You never want a file share resource to be dependent on the "Cluster
Name"
resource."

Perhaps I can fix the problem by creating a network name resource called
as
"fileserver" so that the resource was \\fileserver\users. I don't know,
what
do you think?

M.G.

MG,

when you get a failure, look into your cluster.log file
(%systemroot%\cluster\cluster.log) and see if you can find the messages
when
it fails
(and post these messages to this newsgroup)

also, please be aware that this cluster.log file will overwrite itself
after
some time, so take a copy of this file immediately when the resource
fails.

rgds,
Edwin.

Hi.

I've got a two-node cluster with W2003 Enterprise.

I have a file share resource in Cluster Administrator but sometimes
this
file share stops working and I have to open the Cluster Administrator
and
click on this resource and choose "Bring Online", then this file
share
resource brings online inmediately.

The group where this resource exists has more resources that don't
fail.
I
configured this file share resource not to reset the group when it
fails
(because it fails randomly and at least one time per week).

So, I don't know why this file share resource stops working randomly.
Any
ideas?

Thanks,

M.G.
