Re: Domain-based DFS namespace ? Clustered or Not ?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Ok, thanks.
Now I understand it better.
I have another question regarding the "namespace server" for a
domain-based namespace.
From a WAN traffic point of view, would it make sense to assign to each
remote location ,say one server per site, as a namespace server for
the DFS root ?
Or,maybe that would only make sense if you have a remote site which has
a leaf (1 level beneath ) the dfs root.

example:
Local site : member server :server1 with domain-based dfs root
\\microsoft.com\public

Remote site A : 1 DC (=dc2) and 1 member server (=server2)
DC2 is a namespace server for the (domain-based) dfs root
\\microsoft.com\public
server2 contains also a subfolder which is part of dfs e.g.
\\microsoft.com\public\Marketing
In this configuration, when a client in Remote site A connects to
\\microsoft.com\public\Marketing, does this create any WAN traffic ?

Thanks for your help

Didier

Right, it is a standalone root that only exists in the cluster (DFS-N). It
is not a domain based root that can take advantage of replication. So, that
is why we recommend using a domain-based root for the replication feature
and use clustered file shares for making the shares (leaf objects) highly
available.

The original e-mail said "DFS Namespace" which equates to DFS-N....that
is all you can cluster. You cannot cluster a replicated root using
DFS-R.

I was looking at the subject, too. You can not have a domain based DFS in
a cluster, it has be server based.
