Re: 2 Node Network Load Balance - Duplicate NetBIOS Name

I've added "A" records in DNS and static entries in WINS for the NLB
cluster name and IP address.
If I browse to \\10.5.5.4\Data I can see the share folders as expected
and have tested it for load balance. It sends me to both backend
server shares as I had expected. It just won't resolve by
\\VirServer\Data. It gives me the same error message.
Any idea how to make it work for File sharing?

What do you have in WINS? DNS? This is a NetBIOS error. I have not honestly
even tried to do what you are trying. NLB is made for web applications, TS,
Remote Support. Not NetBIOS.

If anyone can assist, please assist.
Hello,
I currently have 2 Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Sp1 Servers setup in
a Network Load Balanced cluster. When I try to map a drive or type
\\servername from Run, I get the following message:
You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network.
Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try
again.
I have the following setup:
Servers:
ServerA.domain.local 10.5.5.2
ServerB.domain.local 10.5.5.3
Both are configured using NLB Manager with the following:
VirServer.domain.local 10.5.5.4
The following is true:
Both servers have Data replication setup to an identical share on the
same Volume letter.
VirServer has been added to DNS and WINS servers.
I can ping VirServer by name and IP address from a client machine
When I try to browse to it by name \\VirServer, I get the above stated
error message.
I can however browse to \\10.5.5.4 successfully.
Problem is, I need to be able to mape to it by FQDN or NetBIOS.
If anyone can assist me with this issue, I would be grateful.
I have read the boards, but nothing really addresses the problem that I
am having.
Sincerely,
Scott
