Re: questions about majority node set cluster

Your understanding is NOT correct. MNS only replicates the quorum data...it
does not do any data replication for other cluster disks. You would need to
implement some type of 3rd party replication solution in order to accomplish
the SAN volume replication.

You are correct about how MNS works, though. With MNS, you must always
maintain a majority or nodes in order for the cluster to be operational. A
majority is defined as 1/2 of the total # of nodes (rounded down), plus 1.
So with a 3 node cluster, a majority occurs when two or more nodes are
available. If 2 nodes shut down in this situation, the cluster service will
shut down since the majority is lost.

There is a limit to the number of cluster resources that you can have, but
it's over 1600 (and growing).

is my understanding of this correct -- i could have three
servers serving as a front-end to two distinct SANs on the
back-end and each write would go to both? I could lose
one front-end server & be ok, but lose two & my shared
resources are gone?

is there a limit to the number of shared resources (file
shares in this case)? could i have 200?

thanks!
