If you use a SAN, you can replace the SCSI controller in each node with an
HBA (assume FC) and FC Switch or for iSCSI a TOE card or NIC if using the
software initiator. From where I sit, clearly the SAN choice is NetApp;
however you will certainly want to check around with the various vendors to
find the best solution.

Excellent, thanks for the advice. Do you have any suggestions for
specific
SAN hardware or servers? I've been looking at a number of servers and
workstation machines and am not sure on what features I should look for
outside of the basics. (2 NIC's plus SCSI controller per node, or 3
NICs
and an iSCSI setup). Other than that it seems wide open, and probably is,
but
any recommendations would be great.
As I mentioned before this cluster would just be for testing not
production.
We are currently using a Compaq CL380 cluster for testing, but want to
upgrade and be able to run 8 nodes. Thanks again for your time.

HP and only HP, but that is just me. For MNS, HP. For an 8 node, HP. I
have
had wonderful luck with HP products, your mileage may vary. I have also
had
good luck with Dell, though they are not as easy to manage or maintain.

I was wondering what hardware people would recommend for a 8+ node
cluster
which can be used for MNS clustering, and standard clustering. This
cluster
would mainly be used to test the clustering capabilities of our
software.
We
have discussed using VMware and Virtual Server 2005 as alternatives to
an
actual server, but I have heard that both of those setups restrict you
to
2
nodes. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I thank
you
for your time.
Thanks,
