Ok. to be a noob for a while. the heart beat cable also point to point
connection?
The SAN connection has been taken care by its own replication solution and
fabric connection from the two different data centers.

Stretch clusters also fall under "geographically dispersed" clusters
category. As far as MSCS is concerned, setting up a stretch cluster or a
geo-cluster is no different than setting up a standard cluster. The same
rules that apply to standard clusters also apply to geo-clusters. The only
real difference in setup occurs at the storage level and possibly the
network setup for VLANs. For a stretch cluster, you'll have some
additional
configuration in the SAN but this should be transparent to MSCS. When you
install MSCS, it should install like any other cluster.

While MNS can be used in a geographically dispersed cluster, it is not
required for a geo-cluster. Personally, I would not recommend
considering
a
MSN quorum in a geocluster unless you had a 3rd site in the picture.

Windows 2000, obviously there is no MSN and there are certainly

There are different kinds of geographically dispersed clusters. It
sounds
like you are considering a "stretch" cluster rather than a
geographically
dispersed cluster. A true geo-cluster would use a replication
technology
to
synchronously copy data between storage arrays between sites.You will
always
need to get a third party involved to accomplish this type of cluster.

For stretch clusters, you would simply have an ISL between sites or
some
other mechanism to stretch your SAN between sites. This is certainly
doable
and supported.

However, the current environment is fully w2k based and from the KB.

- round trip below 500ms
- quorum this must be replicated

For same building - same vlan setup should not have more than 500ms
latency,
what about the quorum this? I'm planning to have both nodes connect to
the
same SAN, via FC of coz.
in a way - it would be same as both nodes are sitting in the same data
center. make sense to you?

You're referring to a Majority-Node Set (MNS) or Geographically
Dispersed
Cluster (Geo-Cluster) and there is lots of good guidance on how to
implement and architect this particular configuration (which is
significantly different from the traditional Quorum-Disk based
cluster
model).

Also please note that you must pay particular attention to the
Windows
Server Catalog as it concerns supported hardware/configurations.
