Are the 2 disk resources part of your "Cluster Group"? If so, then they
would have to move over to the other node...though they could fail to come
online on that node. You should see 1069 errors in the System event log
indicating that the disk resources are failing. You'll likely need to look
thru the cluster.log to figure out why these disk resources are failing.
If the disks are not in the "Cluster Group" are they in a group containing
an IP resource? When you pull the NIC cable, it would only affect cluster
groups that contain an IP address resource in the group. If you have disks
in a group alone with no other resources, these groups would not fail over
during a public IP link failure

Hi,
We have just implemented a 2 node cluster on a SAN. All other tests we
have done for failover are working fine including shutdown of each
server and initiating failures on each of the resources. The only test
it fails on is the removal of the public network cable. When we do this
then the Quorum resource and the Cluster Ip & Cluster name resources
move over to the 2nd node, however 2 disk resources don't, and we
receive the warning:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: ClusSvc
Event Category: Failover Mgr
Event ID: 1205
Date: 07/03/2006
Time: 15:28:34
User: N/A
Computer: FFDISPATCHER2
Description:
The Cluster Service failed to bring the Resource Group "Cluster Group"
completely online or offline.
The scenario is, 2 identical servers, one zoned switched fabric array,
1 heartbeat crossover cable between the 2 nodes and a connection from
each server into the public (lan) network.
We've had a look at Article 286342 Network Failure Detection and
Recovery in Windows Server 2003 Clusters where the Expected Result is:
Resources should failover to another node in the cluster and unless i'm
missing something this doesn't seem to happen (at least for additional
disks in the cluster).
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers
Leon
