Hi Steve,
You can either apply Windows Server 2003 SP1 or call Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) to request the following hotfix to see if it resolves your issue.
890352 A program may stop responding, and event 50 and event 26 are logged,

When calling Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS), request to speak with a Support Engineer in the Platforms Setup group who deal with these type of disk issues.
