Heartbeat network requirements for mscs

Hello,
What are requirements for heartbeat network in MSCS. I've read that two nodes must be connected through crossover cable or through "dumb" hub and not through "smart" switch or "smart" hub. But what to do when these mscs nodes are in different buildings? I have no possibility to connect them only through "dumb" hubs. I need an explaination here. Thanks.
