We only support mixed mode operating system enviornments during a rolling
upgrade scenario and not for a long extended amount of time like months or
years.

Simply because for Cluster Services to be highly available and supported,
we require all firware, drivers and components be the identical as
mentioned in the article below:

But we allow a very small amount of deviation in Windows Server 2003
