Re: GP install hung

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Bob,

Check out this article about GPO logging:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775423(WS.10).aspx

Small reamrk, you wrote all servres are moved to an OU for the servers, hopefully you didn't move the DCs out of the DCs OU. This is not supported configuration.

Best regards

I'm experimenting with software install ---

I have four OU's that I currently use only for WSUS security updates.
I have Production - all production computers are in here, Server - all
server computers in here, and test - I have systems in here which I
test the Security updates on before I roll out updated to
production/servers.

Now -- I was experimenting with software install for Firefox 3.5.1,
created an .msi file, etc.. and I created the GP - Firefox 3.5.1
inside my Test OU. I reboot the computers in the test group and saw
that FF 3.5.1 was being installed. But ---- it never completed, after
30 minutes I just powered off the computers, deleted the GP from my
Test OU, reboot the computers and they boot up no problem.

I checked the event viewer and only saw the following -- The
assignment of Application Mozilla Firefox 3.5.1 from Policy Firefox
3.5.1 succeeded.

These systems all had Firefox, but older versions - I wanted to
install the latest, yet they did not install.

The way I know it will work but it is more work for me -----

Create a Firefox OU assocoate a FF GP and ---- move computer names
into the Firefox OU, when the users reboot/or power up their systems
in the morning - it installs, then ---- I must move their computer
names back "out" of the Firefox OU and back into Production OU --- too
much manual work.

Any one have an idea why my FF GP may have hung up/not upgraded on my
systems in the Test OU ?

Thanks,
Bob
