Hello obnetadmin,
Then you have no problems, just make sure no machines are configured to use them.

Meinolf-
That is correct. One of the other two DC's at this site (which also
now holds FSMO roles) is AD-Integrated primary DNS/WINS.

Hello obnetadmin,
I assume that on the other DC at least one DNS WINS exist?

No need to worry about the secondary DNS/WINS stuff? I suppose not.
Thanks for all your assistance with this.

Hello obnetadmin,
You have seized the FSMO to another server, do NOT bring back the
old server to the domain, also not from backup, then you result in
having multiple FSMO.
Disconnect the old machine, run cleanup in the domain and make a
fresh install of the DC as additional DC in the domain. If needed
use a BartPe for example to save data from the old DCs harddisk.

I guess at this point I should disconnect DC from the network and
start metadata cleanup? Or should I leave it connected. This DC
was also secondary DNS/WINS box. At what point would I restore my
System State from backup?

Hello obnetadmin,
At least the ADRM password is needed, so i think not possible
because you can not change it remote during the loop.

I can boot into Safe Mode but I do not have the local Admin
password.

Hello obnetadmin,
Without having the option to start the server normally, i think
no. Or are you able to logon to safe mode?

Also..is there any way to recover the local Administrator
password on that DC? To build the BartPE disk, does it need to
be run against a Windows server?

Hello obnetadmin,
In a single forest domain the IM can be held also from a GC
DC, make all DCs GC in your case, no problem.

I have all FSMO roles seized to another DC with the
exception of the Infrastructure Master. Can I seize this
role to a GC server for the time being without any issues
while I perform metadata cleanup?

Hello obnetadmin,
Reboot loop can be virus/spyware etc. also. Try with a
BartPE
or
similar
to scane the harddisk for them. If you still stuck in the
loop
and
it
is
not the broken harddisk you can also seize the FSMO roles
on
another
DC and
run a metadata cleanup according to:

I have a single forest single domain Windows Server 2003
EE Active Directory environment. At my main site I have 3
DC's. One of the three is stuck in loop where it
constantly reboots when it either reaches the splash
screen, after loading computer or personal settings, or
after login. This DC holds the Infrastructure Master role
as well as secondary DNS and WINS. I don't believe it's a
hardware problem so I need to remove it from the domain
and reinstall the server...Could I boot and do a Directory
Services restore? Also need to restore local Administrator
and/or Directory Services restore password. HELP!
