"the dsa object cannot be deleted"

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

A old domain controller recently died before I had a chance to demote it, so
I had to remove it from AD using Ntdsutil.exe and that all seemed to work.
However, when I try to delete it from the domain controllers container in AD
users & computers, I get "the dsa object cannot be deleted" so I used
adsiedit.msc and followed the instructions in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318698. The problem is that the orphaned DC
does not show up in adsiedit.

Is there another way to get rid of it in AD?
