Can be a DNS problem. Also check that NetBios over TCP/IP is enabled.

Hello
I have a two way transistive trust between two 2003 native mode
forests. I am seeing the following error in the system log on one of
the DC's. DC1 is a DC in my forest, T1server2 is a DC in the other
forest. The trust is in place and has been verified successful, the
trust is over a site to site vpn.
