Hello,

Using a brand new OEM install of Windows Server 2008 Std SP1. This is the
only server. Client has 2 offices; set up users in two different AD
containers, one for each office. No problem.

Went into GPMC and started setting policies and preferences in Default
Domain Policy. When I came out of Default Domain Policy, all of the users
from one of the containers have disappeared! The other container is fine.

However, the user objects must be there somewhere, because they can still
log in and use the server's resources. They are not in either container, nor
anywhere else in AD I have looked.

Also, at the top of the center pane, I see (next to the org name) the
notation "filter applied". I can't figure out how to UN apply that filter,
and I wonder if that has something to with it.

I have tried searching for them, resetting the GPO, restarting ADUC,
restarting the server, Googling, Live-searching, Help-searching, and tearing
my hair out. I have probably missed something obvious. Will someone take
pity on me and point out what it is?

Thanks in advance,

-Bruce Diamond

Hi Bruce,

First, I wouldn't be changing anything in the Default Domain Policy, or even the Default Domain Controller policy. Create a separate GPO at the domain level and use that for your custom settings. After all, what were to happen if you inadvertently changed something required and not sure what you changed?

Second, about the filter view, did you try to go to the View menu, Filter Options, and select View All Types of Objects?
