Re: Migration from sbs 2003 to 2008 standard

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello matttt897,

Routing and remote access is not needed to use DHCP as Ace described, leave it disabled if you do not have external machines connecting to your domain. For rotuing use the router itself and connect it to the switch where also the 2008 server is connected.

Best regards

Ok, i've figured out exactly what I need to do. In an experiment I
configured the new machine as DHCP, routing and remote access, and
hopefully...DNS. I'm just having so many problems regarding the
clients not being able to logon without the old machine. If I could
get the new machine to not only hold the user names and passwords, I
should be able to get routing and remote access running and eventually
demote the old server. I'm just so lost as to what steps i need to
take further. "matttt897" wrote:

Ok I have since disabled it following the link Meinolf gave me. I'm

Ace
Thanks for being so responsive to this. I changed the DNS settings
on both
the server side nic from the SBS and the 2008 nic too. Each one has
themselves as the preferred DNS. I went into DHCP, under ipv4 i
right
clicked
and added the two options which already had option 006 and 015. I
left
ipv6
alone. which i can hopefully remove later.
I should be able to check the config now?
Do I need to manually change the DNS on each client to preferred
(2008
box)
and secondary (SBS) or does it magically work.
I like when things magically work.
Matt,

Unfortunately, tt is not magic. It is all configuration based
following basic rules of engagement. Please follow my
recommendations, as well as Meinolf's to get your DC working
properly. Do not wait to disable IPv6. It is a known issue with
communications when it is not used by other machines in a domain.
