I did find an old reference to the old server in DNS as it was a DNS
server at some point. I also noticed that if clients try to open one
of the mapped drives on their system, they get a message " x:\ is not
accessible. The system detected a possible attempt to compromise
security. Please ensure that you can contact the server that
authenticated you."

Thoughts?? Thanks again!

Sounds like a mapped drive to the server, and since it no longer exists, the
user cannot open the mapped drive. What was in that share that was mapped?

Ace

Nope, we have just the internal domain, and we have removed all the
entries in DNS refering to that server by name or IP.

Also, the drive mappings are to the new server, so the paths are all
valid (and we can browse to them, with the 'enter ID and password'
inconvenience mentioned above). I also mapped both drives from a
machine that hadn't had them mapped before, and tehy both worked
(except that I had to use my ID and password, rather than the user I
was logged on as (again as described above).

I also tried installing WINS for good measure just in case the old
server was using it or something...

Anything else? Thanks again for all your help, especially over the
weekend!
