i have a project coming up soon that i have to figure out how to do.I
have very little details on it so far.
Converting to active directory
copy user profiles from old environment (which i don't know what it
is)
how to add a script to the gpo to automatically remap their network
shares?
please advise me on this.
What are you converting from? Is this a migration? If so, what is the
source? Is the source or target SBS (which version?), Windows 2000,
2003, or
2008?
If migrating from one AD domain to another, you can use the ADMT tool.
It
will migrate user accounts, groups and machine accounts. When it
migrates
machine accounts, you can opt to use the security translator, which
will
allow the users to logon to the new domain and still have access to
their
old profile.
The above is based on assumption. If you can elaborate, it will be
helpful.
In the meantime, please read some of the links below to see if they
will
help you.
Here's some info on ADMT 3.1 with guidelines

As for scripts, you can use GPOs for scripts, or the legacy method of
using
the NETLOGON folder (in Sysvol).
For GPO based scripts, here's a nice tutorial with screen shots:

Thanks for the response. But i've only been given minimal details by
somebody on this project.
What i know thus far is that it is converting to a Windows server 2003
environment and we're converting to active directory. so i'm assuming
they never used active directory before. If they never used that, is it
safe to assume that it'll be a small company?
copy user profiles from old environment (which i don't know what it
is)
how to add a script to the gpo to automatically remap their network
shares?
what are all the possible things i should review? I've been googling
stuff, but haven't found anything specific with the amount of details
i've been given.
