1/2) Clients access a dc via services. These services are advertised via dns, so not sure what or how the first two question would really have to help or be meaningful
Jorge Pinto has an excellent set of articles on the dclocator service

Dear Microsoft Newsgroup
I have a few questions about system Backup in windows server 2003 R2 and
Windows server 2003 SBS
1. What part of the System State Backup contains a DCs SID?
2. Does the SID of the DC have to be the same for clients not to notice a
replaced server?
3. Where can I get a detailed document on what exactly is backed up in the
system state for windows 2003 and SBS 2003 besides the non descript
Registry, AD, COM etc
4. Can you sestore a system state of one hardware type to a different
hardware so that you can save time not having to redo a lost DC if you do not
have another DC in your network?
Thankyou for any replies in advance
Travis
