Re: logon/logoff script for notebook users

Hi Marcin,
We have one office location. Our staff go to clients and access their
network resources. So this will work perfect for me as I already tried
/pesistent:no switch to one of batch file successfully.
Now I will try to figure out how to implement GP. I have a silly question to
ask you: Should I start GP implement from my DC or workstation?
Thank you again for your all time and help..
With best regards,
Hemal

just to clarify - this will only result in your drive mappings being
non-persistent - but I'm not really clear how this is supposed to help you
with your original problem. Are your remote offices to which the notebook
users travel are not connected to your domain (so, effectively, your users
do not run the logon script at the logon at those locations)?

Hemal,
simply add /PERSISTENT:NO at the end of each line of your batch file...

Hi Marcin,
Thanks for the link. I will go through it and try to understand it. To
map
network drives all I do is create a batch file as below and assign that
.bat
file to users in AD.
net use G: \\Dellserver\Fileserver
net use H: \\HPserver\Volume1
net use I: \\HP2SERVER\Volume2
net use J: \\Mainserver\Tax
net use L: \\Memberserver\Volume5
Thank you very much again for your reply..

Hemal,
Considering that you don't have any experience with Group Policies, I'd
suggest that you test it by deploying a sample test GPO first - rather
than
using any of the built-in ones. For an intro to Group Policy
functionality,
refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb742376.aspx.
What method do you use to map drives (can you post whatever script you
are
using)? In essence, your logoff script would need to simply reverse this
process by removing the drive mapping. Alternatively, you can simply map
them in non-persistent manner (so they are not remembered during a
subsequent logon)

Hi Marcin,
Thanks for your quick reply. Notebooks users don't user offline files
but
sometimes they map client's network drives. So I want to make sure
when
they
logon to our network they have our network drives accessible but they
log
off
it's gone.
Also I need a favour, I never used Group policy before as you
mentioned
what
should be the best practice to use GP? First of all I don't where to
start
I
mean should I setup GP on DC or ? and then how to manage it?
Any reply will be appreicated...

logoff scripts can be created/assigned in the same manner as the
logon
scripts via Group Policies (as
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781354.aspx explains).
I'm
not
clear, however, what exactly are you trying to accomplish by using
them
(instead, it sounds like your notebook users could benefit from
offline
files functionality)...

Hi,
We are using logon sciprts (batch files) located on DC at
C:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\Domain name\Scripts for all domain users.
Our
notebook users reported that sometimes when they go to remote side
the
PC
is
slow so I recommend then to disconnect network drives when they are
off
to
the office.
Does anyone know how to create logoff script through DC or anyone
have
any
suggestions?
Thank you for any ideas.
With best regards,
Hemal
