Hello phoenix,
In the output you see if the DC is global catalog or not. Basically the GC is checked and up or the server is down. The GC itself is a kind of database.

Hello phoenix,Would it tell me if the global catolog was down or not available ?
Install the suptools.msi from the installation disk support\tools
folder and run dcdiag and replmon or repadmin. Also netdiag will give
you a good help. Check the /? for any tool to see the available
options.
Also dnslint is helpful:

I'm looking for two things. I definately remember a tool during my
msce days thats checks the health of ad. I need something that
checks if the global catalog is alive and working.. etc.. for
troubleshooting ad connectivity, and health.
Secondly what is available as a vbscript to do the same ? Anyone
come across anything ?
Cheers,
.
