Hello dmz123,

How is your connection to the internet, DSL router or similar? Then you have
to configure the default gateway of your computers to the domain internal
ip of router.
On the DNS server you have to configure a FORWARDER to the ip of the ISP's
DNS server. For this open the DNS management console, open the server properties
and choose FORWARDERS tab. Here fill in the ISP's DNS server ip address.
Do NOT set the ip address on the computers NIC, this will result in domain
problems with logon, policies are not applied correctly, etc.

Thanks Meinlof!

One more basic Q: If in case I need this server to connect to the
external world (just to update things and download) what do I need to
do? Both in terms of h/w and s/w config?

Also for the rest of the machines on this intranet, do I need to
explicitly configure DHCP server addr pointing to this server?

appreciate once again your feedback..

best regards

Hello dmz123,

You have to setup DNS allways domain internal, means all machines
have to use only the domain DNS server, no other. So the DC should be
also the DNS server and for the ip configuration it should be
preferred DNS itself with it's own address, not the loopback address
127.0.0.1 Also i would choose Active directory integarted zones, so
if you add an additional DC/DNS server all zones will be replicated
during AD replication and both servers are writable DNS servers
instead of using secondary DNS server which only stores a read-only
copy.

Dear MS AD gurus,

I am just getting started; Novice; WOuld appreciate if 'can get some
useful pointers and tips here..

We are setting a small lab config (Intranet).
What would be the most basic and simplest configuration for
AD? How do I go about in configuring DNS? Lets say the
DNS recs wont go outside the intranet (propogation);
But I need users accessing intranet and this windows 2003 server
with OWA. [every thing is internal]
Please advise..
Any step-by-step guide available for this?
Many thanks in advance!
