Re: ADPrep /forestprep failed 2000 to 2003 r2

Hello Kelly,

Have also a look on this one:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773360.aspx

Additional post the output from "schupgr" from the command prompt on the 2000 DC.

I'm running the 32bit version off of the 32bit cd. I've already
loaded the 64bit on the new server, just need to get this old box up
to 2003 so that I can move it to the new server.

Hello Kelly,

So which adprep version from the R2 disk do you run, 32bit or 64bit?
Because 2000 is 32bit it has to be the 2003 32bit version.

Hello Kelly,

Do you have 2003 64bit version or 32bit? Which SP is installed on
the 2000 DC?

Also check that Schema Updates are enabled:
1. At a command prompt, type:
regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll
NOTE: RegSvr32 has been successfully registered when a
DllRegisterServer in schmmgmt.dll succeeded dialog box is
displayed.
2. Open a new management console by clicking Start, click Run, and
then type:
MMC
3. On the Console menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
4. Click Add to open the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box.
5. Click Active Directory Schema, and then click Add.
6. "Active Directory Schema" is displayed in the Add/Remove
snap-in.
Click Close, and then click OK to return to the console.
7. Click Active Directory Schema so that the Classes and Attributes
sections are displayed on the right-hand side.
8. Right-click Active Directory Schema and click Operations Master.
9. Click to select the Schema may be modified on this Domain
Controller check box. Click OK, and then exit the console.
The schema may now be updated on the domain controller that holds
the schema operations master role.

Hello Kelly,

Make sure you run the adprep command with an account that is
member of the schema administrators on the schema master itself.
Also make sure that you can write to the schema. Please post the
output from this command "netdom query fsmo" without the qoutes
from the command prompt. If the netdom command is not found
install the tools/support/suptools.msi from the 2000 installation
disk.

Best regards

I'm running ADPrep on my 2000 DC and I get almost complete and I

Meinolf

Here is a copy of the netdom query like you asked for.

C:\Program Files\Support Tools>netdom query fsmo
Schema owner crdi-ad.xxxx.local
Domain role owner crdi-ad.xxxx.local
PDC role crdi-ad.xxxx.local
RID pool manager crdi-ad.xxxx.local
Infrastructure owner crdi-ad.xxxx.local
The command completed successfully.
C:\Program Files\Support Tools>
All of the FSMO roles are currently on the same DC. I'm also
logged in as the Administrator which is a member of all the needed
groups.

Meinolf,

On the 2000 DC I'm running SP4 with current updates also. The 2003
box will be an 64bit but the 2000 is just a 32bit. I can setup a
2003 in 32bit if I need to. Rightnow I'm still working on just
getting the 2000 AD updated. I've just checked the Schema and I do
have the box checked to allow updates.

Kelly
