Hello Joe,
Can you also post an unedited ipconfig /all from the client. Did you ever used a beta version from the Adminpak?

Sorry for the delay, as I've said, I only get to this machine
periodically.
Anyway, by cleaning up the DNS entries on the server (it only lists
itself,
and has the 2 external addresses in 'Forwarders'), I've gotten the
server to
be able to access externally, but a workstation on the same segment,
pointing
to the server as it's DNS can't access external.
As for replacing the Adminpk, I have the new one, but when I first try
to
remove the current one I get the same error message that I started
with
"Admin pk can only run on XP Pro or on systems running Win Server
2003". I'm
reluctant to try just running the installation before removing the
current
one as that may mess things up even more. Any suggestions ?
Thanx, have a good weekend.

Hello Joe,
I reviewed again the posting and saw that your ipconfig /all from
fvacserver2
is strange for me:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.102
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.102
You should always used fixed ip addresses from servers, especially
DC's:
The DNS server here is x.x.0.x but the server ip is x.x.1.x, why is
that?
It should look like this:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.102
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.102
For the adminpak.msi, remove the installed version from the server
and install the latest version from SP2 again.

Meinolf, I only get to the site with the machine on a weekly basis,
so
that's
why there's the delays in my replies.
Anyway, I was able to get to the DNS configuration MMC snap-in, and
set the
forwarding to include the 2 external DNS servers, as you suggested.
However,
in order to stop the DHCP function in the router, I had to try to
configure
the DHCP on the server. When I tried to start the DHCP MMC, I got a
popup
saying that the Admin Pack was being installed, and then an
'Installation
failure' popup, saying that it could only be installed on W2K3Server
or XP,
which is the message that I had mentioned in my original note to
you.
The
machine is definitely running W2K3, but thinks it isn't. Without
being
to
change DHCP, I can't turn off the function in the router.
Also, when I had configured the forwarders tab, I was no longer able
to
reach external addresses (Internet websites) from the server or from
an XP
machine that's also on the same router, even though I had re-booted
the
server to make sure that it would be there when the services were
activated.
I had to restore the manually-configured external addresses in order
to
connect to the Internet.
Thanx, Joe

Thanx much, Meinholf, I'll try to get this straightened out as per
your
suggestions (& then lock things down so that people can't "help"
with
the
server support).
Have a good weekend,

Hello Joe,
Domain internal do never use the DNS server ip's from the ISP, i
assume 167.206.254.2 and 167.206.254.1 are from the ISP. Also use
not the DHCP server on the router, use one of your member servers
or DC's for setting up DHCP. So also the entries in DNS will be
updated correctly.
The ISP's Dns server 167.206.254.2 and 167.206.254.1 has to be
setupo on the DNS server properties under DNS management console
under the FORWARDERS tab.
