Re: Roaming Profiles and longggg log on times....

I think I have seen both of those but will go back and read again to
make sure. I guess the problem I have getting my head around this
is....
We have users that can and do work in multiple locations remotely. At
these locations they use a VPN connection back into our main office. I
thought by redirecting folders and such to a server location that it
would stop the constant moving of data back and forth, unless they
needed it (IE: opening a file to edit/read/modify/whatever) It sounds
and appears that it still pulls down the entire contents of their
folders (my documents and in my case desktop) each time they log on.
I don't see how this is of any value. If I leave their files on the
laptops then I can't get them backed up on a regular schedule unless I
tell them to leave their laptop plugged in and try to do it all live
while they work. This isn't feasible either. I must be missing a piece
of this puzzle for working in different locations, I hope someone can
point me in the right direction to getting through this. Thanks again,
I look forward to learning more.

Also use the additional hyperlinks and ignore if it states windows 2000,
also used in 2003.

Being that it is a laptop, the user that will be using it works in
multiple locations and VPN's back into our office. What would be the
correct procedure then to do for accounts? I have about 10-12 users
that work in multiple offices and need/use roaming profiles and I need
to speed this up some how.....

Hello TimParker,
If you have a lot of data in the folders they will be all copied to
the destination
machine where you logging in. If you have a slow link to the site
where the
client is, it will take time. Try with an account that has no roaming
profile,
to see if it speeds up.

I am trying to figure out if I missed something when this on our
network. I have a couple new laptop users that I just turned loose
and I am trying to install a printer for one remotely. The logon
time is taking forever. I have my desktop and mydocuments folders
being redirected. Shouldn't that speed up the logins? Or am I
missing something with how this works?
The only thing I haven't redirected yet is Application Data.
