You can use the tokenGroups computed attribute in ADAM right now for
recursive group membership expansion for users. It doesn't help expanding
membership of the group itself, but if the focus is on the user's group
membership, you should already have what you need.
Still, I can see that.
I'm a little surprised that the auditing feature would be that useful on a
client OS as it is uncommon for audit logs to be collected in an uniform way
on client machines. Would this be primarily for troubleshooting?
Regardless, the answer is still no. :( I know for sure that the PM at MS
in charge of AD LDS would like to get this changed and needs ammo to take to
management. If you'd like, I can hook you up with him and you can provide
details on your scenario. Every little bit helps. Please drop me a note
offline if you are interested.

The new features that caught our attention were the auditing of database
changes, and especially the recursive queries. We use ADAM extensively as
a
app role store, and most of them are hierarchical. Up to now, we've just
been
adding users to multiple groups, but with this we could reduce our
maintenance, and the frequency with which someone falls through the
cracks.

I don't think there is a separate install for XP, but I also don't think
there is a lot of difference between ADAM and AD LDS in 2008 either. I
can't actually think of any significant new features off the top of my
head.
:)
Are you concerned about something in particular?
The lack of a deployment mechanism for Vista is also a sore spot,
especially
since you can't install either on Vista.

In looking into AD LDS (as we currently use ADAM for some extranet
scenarios,
and for development), I've seen reports both ways with respect to
installing
AD LDS on windows xp. Can anyone definitively answer:
1. Can AD LDS be installed on Windows XP?
2. If so, how do I do it? I have the 2008 Server media, but I don't
want
to
install that just so I can get AD LDS...
