Re: Bulk of orphan object in lost & found container.

Hello Awinish,

If you delete them and as you said some of the computer objects are pingable the machines maybe have to rejoin them to the domain. Also can be if replication is not correct running that some other objects that are needed will be deleted. We have 3 different domains and all our Lost and found containers are empty, the domain is setup 6 years ago. We have round 800 user accounts and 1000 workstations.

I would really check BEFORE DELETING that replication runs correctly.

Best regards

Hello Awinish,

The lostAndFound container is where objects that are orphaned during
Active Directory (AD) database replication are placed. An object is
orphaned when the object is created on one domain controller and the
container in which the object is placed is deleted from the directory
on another domain controller before the object has a chance to
replicate. It is also where you find objects that have been moved to
a new location that is missing after the server is replicated. For
example if an object is created after a replication cycle runs and
that object is then removed or deleted before the next replication
cycle is initiated the object is then sent to the LostAndFound
container.

An orphaned object is automatically placed in the Lost and Found
container where it can be found by an administrator, who must
determine whether to move or delete the object.

Check with dcdiag /v and netdiag /v and repadmin /showrepl for
errors. By default you have nothing to do in this folder.
