I am trying to make a logon (login) banner that will display the rules
of our network before users can login. I went to the OU in Active
Directory, then I went to to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings-
Security Settings->Local Policies->Security Options
* Interactive Logon : Message Title for users attempting to logon
* Interactive Logon : Message Text for users attempting to logon
I set the title text and the message text and then clicked the apply
button, but when I went to login as user from that OU the login banner
didn't appear. So did a gpupdate /force on both client and the server
and nothing changed. So I started the server and the client and still
nothing changed.
Here's the output from GPRESULT:
We can't tell anything definitive from YOUR GPResult because we
don't know your GP names etc., but assuming that the settings were
in "Group Policy" (using better names will make your life easier) AND
that REPLICATION had occurred (to at least the authenticating DC)
then changes for the USER would apply.
OR that you made the changes to the Default Domain Policy (and
replication occurred to the authenticating DC).
The PRE-logon stuff should be a Computer Policy however, so
are you making this change to the User-OU linked policy and not
to the Computer policy.
Pre-logon pretty much has to be for the Computer since no user
has yet authenticated.
