RE: WIndows Server 2003 SP2 does not respond to ctrl-alt-delete

Hello,

Thank you for your post.

In order to narrow down the issue, I'd like to ask you several questions
before we go further.

Did the issue occur only before login? Did the machine respond to
Ctrl-Alt-Delete after you login the system?

If the issue occurred only before login, please check whether you have
installed any third-party programs which might replace the Graphical
Identification and Authentication file (Msgina.dll) and cause logon issues.

To verify this, please check whether the following registry key exists in
your registry. If so, please backup and remove it to restore the default
Windows logon interface.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GinaDLL

By default, this registry value does not exist and the system will use the
default msgina.dll; however, Windows opens the interface to enable third
party manufacturers to create their own msgina.dll file to change the logon
behavior.

Please also try to replace the keyboard with others to ensure that this
issue is not caused by hardware problems.

If the above steps doesn't help, please try to perform a clean boot and
check whether the issue still occurs.

To perform a clean boot in Windows Server 2003, please do as follows:

1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter

2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.

3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items

4. Click OK and choose Restart

5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs

Please let me know the result after you finish all the tests. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Neo Zhu,

| I have a WIndows Server 2003 SP2 that does not respond to ctrl-alt-delete.
| It is the AD server, DNS Server, etc.
| No entries in any of the Event Logs of interest.
|
| Running Remote Desktop to the server works fine, however if I execute:
| mstsc -v:servername /F -console
| the result is incosistent. Sometimes I can log in, sometimes I can't.
|
| Rebooting resolves the issue for a while.
| Any ideas would be helpful.
