If I'm in the wrong group here, please direct me to the correct one.
Thanks.
Someone thought that they had read where one should set up a print
server on a domain controller. ( We have two (2) DCs. ) I have
always thought that ideally, one keeps a DC as just a DC.
Ideally but it is not a rule -- and when you can only affor a "few servers"
then you cannot easily do that.
SBS for instance has to do pretty much everything and it was designe
and is marketed to do that.
They also talked about using scripting to create the new printer(s) on
the clients. I would like to, if possible, go the extra mile and
remove all the old printers on a client, before creating any new ones.
( Remove the garbage, so to speak. ) We're thinking that this would
require one script per department for creating the new printer(s).
Maybe but we cannot tell. I MIGHT be able to write this with one
script for the whole company but it would be similar to the multi scripts
(I would switch/if-then off the Group or OU.)
I was wondering if this could/should be set up using a group policy. (
We're still learning about Group Policies. )
Scripts are a definite part of Group Policy. Logon and Logoff for users;
Startup and Shutdown for Computers.
We would appreciate any advice, comments, thoughts, guidance you could
provide to help us avoid going down that wrong path. :)
Thanks in advance,
Tom
